Two first-half goals stood up for host North Kansas City to post a 2-1 Suburban Middle Six victory over Truman Wednesday night.

“I’m not upset that we lost, but how we lost,” Byrne said. “Our guys had to overcome a lot of adversity in this game and we fought through it. Half of our team is injured and we were down to our third-string keeper. So, I’m proud of the team overall. We dominated the again but let some simple goals go in early that cost us.”

James Dilley scored an unassisted goal for Truman (7-8-1, 1-3) in the 59th minute.

EXCELSIOR SPRINGS 2, GRAIN VALLEY 1: A goal in the 80th minute lifted host Excelsior Springs to the Missouri River Valley Conference victory Tuesday night.

Trent Squires scored the only goal for Grain Valley (2-7, 1-5) in the 14th minute.

“(We) played very well against a very skilled team,” Grain Valley coach Jon Thompson said “Our defense got sloppy and one mistake gave Excelsior a lucky goal, which secured the win for game.”
