The Catholic Education Foundation is hosting the Inspiring Women 2012 luncheon next month.

The event is at 11:30 a.m. May 3 at the Overland Park Convention Center. Proceeds will benefit the Catholic Education Foundation, which provides children in need with scholarships to attend Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas.

The event is expected to be a sellout. Table sponsorships are available and individual tickets can be purchased for $100 each ($35 each for students age 12 to 18-years-old). Speakers include:

Collins Tuohy, who will share her journey with NFL Ravens’ football player Michael Oher, from fellow student to close friend to adoptive sister. Tuohy will share how Oher, who was the subject of the Academy Award-nominated movie “The Blind Side,” beat the odds thanks to his adopted family and the faith-filled education he received.

Sue Mitchell, the real-life “Miss Sue” who was portrayed by Kathy Bates in “The Blind Side,” is a believer that any student can achieve academic success with the right blend of motivation and applied learning. She inspires students and teachers alike to explore new opportunities in teaching and learning.

Peggy Dunn is a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area who has served as Mayor of Leawood, Kan. since 1997. She also serves on the Johnson/Wyandotte Counties Council of Mayors and is active in a wide range of civic and nonprofit organizations. Peggy will share her commitment to “family first” and what it really means to “give back” by helping others.

Silpada Design co-founders and Kansas City natives Bonnie Kelly and Teresa Walsh turned a passion for sterling silver jewelry into a business that provided them financial rewards and family flexibility-a goal for many women trying to juggle a career and family. These former stay-at-home moms will talk about how they parlayed $25 into a thriving international jewelry business that was purchased by Avon Products in 2010.
