He was the fifth child and third son of Frank and Mathilda Sauer.  Marvin began working in the butcher shop in Ellis, Kansas, when he was 14 years old.  He worked there until he was 17 years of age, when he enlisted in the US Navy.  He was a “gunners mate” on the USS Ticonderoga, a Navy aircraft carrier.  He served his country until April 1948. He married Bette Lou Walker in November of 1948, and they moved from Seattle, Washington, to Ellis, Kansas, where they proceded to have six children.  Rebecca, Mark, Randall, Richard, Douglas and Susanne.  Marvin began his carpenter apprenticeship for A.I. McCroski Construction Co.  He moved to the Missouri side in 1953.  He took over the R.D. Bayless Construction Company where he had been a partner and  began building homes for Lawson Jones.  In 1969, he went to work for Butler Manufacturing Co., as a General Superintendent.  He retired in 1983. His entire life, he loved hunting and fishing.  He loved to go to Colorado to hunt deer and every March 1st you would find him standing with hip waders in the cold waters of Bennett Springs, just waiting for the whistle to go off and begin trout season.  He loved to tie his own flies to fish with.  Marvin had an extreme talent for building anything with wood.  He could repair just about anything...”if it was made of wood”.  For those of us, who knew him best, he shared his humor, love and wit.  He will be sorely missed by his “poker buddies”.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Douglas and Randall Sauer;  son-in-law, Steve Nash; grandson, Jaccob Lewis; and great-grandson, Tyler Lewis.

Marvin is survived by his children, Becky and husband, Gary, Grain Valley, Mark Sauer, Blue springs, Richard Sauer and wife, Lisa, Grain Valley, and Susi Nash, Greenwood.  Grandchildren: Rick, Michael, Doug, Nick, Jessica and husband, Jason, Mallori and husband, Jason, Jodie and husband, Curtis, Jennifer and husband, John, Matthew, Nicole, Erin, Eric.  Step-grandchildren:  Randy and Shelly.  Marvin had 4 great- granddaughters, 4 great-grandsons and 8 step-great-grandchildren.
