The severe thunderstorm watch for the metro area has been lifted.

The National Weather Service had placed Jackson County and a dozen other counties along both sides of the state line are under the watch until 11 p.m.. A watch means conditions are favorable for the formation of strong thunderstorms. A warning, on the other hand, would mean storms have been detected either by radar or a trained weather spotter.
