The city of Grain Valley is preparing for its annual citywide garage sale.

The event is from 8 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. May 19 throughout the Grain Valley community. Registration is $5 and forms can be picked-up at several area businesses including Patricia’s, Grain Valley City Hall and Casey’s. The registration fee helps to pay for advertising as well as having the name and location of the sale included on the garage sale map, which will be available the morning of the event.

In addition, if the garage sale is registered, community members have the option of the Big Brothers organization picking up leftover items for donation. There is no requirement to donate these items, but is an additional perk of registering for the event.

Homeowners also need to be reminded that if food is being sold that is not prepackaged and requires cooking, they need to contact the Jackson County Health Department to get a food permit. Prepackaged items can be sold without a permit.
