The Jackson County government, in a statement, commended the Kansas City Council’s decision to allocate $1.7 million in direct funding for the Truman Sports Complex funding issue.
The county will be working with council members and staff to ensure that $2 million is available on an annual basis that’s consistent with the leases and past agreements.
“We have met with council members and city staff and are confident that we will agree to a long-term mechanism for funding the stadiums that will be agreeable to all parties,” according to the statement.
For this calendar year, the city council majority has voted to direct city staff to identify an additional $300,000 which will be allocated to the complex. This will bring the total allocation to $2 million and honor the commitments previously made by the city.
