The earlier-than-usual start to the season didn’t hinder the St. Mary’s girls basketball squad.

The visiting Trojans earned a narrow 42-41 victory over Oak Grove on Tuesday behind 12 points from Danielle Pocock.

“Two weeks ago I challenged the girls knowing that we were going to be playing our first game earlier than normal,” St. Mary’s coach Krista Daniels said. “They wanted that challenge and they took it on.”

Jenna Rau and Alexis Sirna added 10 points apiece to help the Trojans (1-0).

Miranda Epperson paced Oak Grove (0-1) with 16 points and Brittany Douthitt added 11.
Oak Grove was a 29-15 junior varsity winner.
