Two Independence men have been charged with theft in connection to stolen flat screen televisions in Grain Valley.


According to police, an officer patrolling the area of the Lifestyle RV facility, 1100 Pamela Blvd., on Nov. 14 observed a suspicious vehicle parked near a row of RVs. Police had been focusing on the area due to recent thefts from RVs in the area, according to Grain Valley police.

Two Independence men have been charged with theft in connection to stolen flat screen televisions in Grain Valley.


According to police, an officer patrolling the area of the Lifestyle RV facility, 1100 Pamela Blvd., on Nov. 14 observed a suspicious vehicle parked near a row of RVs. Police had been focusing on the area due to recent thefts from RVs in the area, according to Grain Valley police.


A man was seen carrying five flat screen televisions from the RV parking lot. When police approached him he fled, but police captured him. Police discovered that at least seven RVs in the lot had been broken into, and 13 flat screen televisions were stolen from them.


Police later obtained a search warrant for a home in the 1300 block of Holke in Independence, where another suspect was apprehended. Police recovered one stolen flat screen television in the home that had been taken from an RV at Lifestyle on June 23.


Joseph S. Smith, 24, Independence, was charged with one count of stealing over $150.  His bond was set at $4,000.


Joshua Cooper, 24, Independence, was charged with two counts of stealing over $150 (the thefts from November 14 and June 23). His bond was set at $25,000.


The investigation is continuing, and a third suspect is being sought. Police also are looking for eight additional stolen flat screen televisions.
