A new holiday fundraising event will benefit Special Olympics-Lee’s Summit and the New Longview Foundation, while honoring the memory of an outstanding young man.
On Dec. 6, Mantles and Martinis will showcase five New Longview homes whose mantels will be elaborately decorated by area designers. Two New Longview businesses, JBean’s Gathering Place and Gusto Coffee Bistro, will also be a part of the tours. Each home and venue will be open from 5:30 to 9 p.m., and will offer a taste of a holiday martini and delicious hors d‘oeuvres.
Event founder and chair Susie Zammar created Mantels and Martinis to honor the legacy of her son, Kyle, an accomplished Lee’s Summit High School athlete who died in 2006 at the age of 22 of a rare cardiac condition. Kyle had planned to become a special education teacher and coach. Mantels and Martinis will support the 100 Lee’s Summit Special Olympians who participate in eight sports. Several athletes will serve as hosts and hostesses at each decorated home.
The fundraiser will also help the New Longview Foundation protect and maintain the historic structures on Longview Farm.
Tickets for Mantels and Martini are $40 each and can be purchased online at mantelsandmartinis.com or at New View Interiors, Gusto Coffee Bistro, Cameron’s Home Furnishings and Home Finishings. The cost includes admission to all seven venues and a very merry gift bag.
Only 250 tickets will be sold and all guests must be 21 or older. Mantels and Martinis encourages guests to pick up their gift bag and tour map prior to the event at New View Interiors in New Longview from 1 to 4 p.m. Dec. 1 and from 4 to 7 p.m., Dec. 3 to 5. Pick up will also be available from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 6, but early pickup allows guests to start the tour at any of the seven locations.
The eight designers lending their talents to Mantels and Martinis are Jo Wilson of New View Interiors, Kevin Kelly of Five Petals, Lisa Holiman of Lily Wolfgang; Kelly Acock of The Monarch Flower Company, Jill Waits and Lori Privitera of All A’Bloom; Pam Rosanbalm of Home Finishings, Susan Tominia of Cameron’s and Jana Laswell.
