Teaching Philosophy

Bestgen hopes that her classroom is an inviting, caring atmosphere where cooperative hands-on learning is taking place. Bestgen wants each student that walks into her classroom to feel accepted, encouraged and inspired to be an active learner.

“I grew up in a family of educators. My mother and uncle were administrators and my aunt was a teacher in the Blue Springs School District. My father was a farmer, and he taught me how nature can be a valuable tool in both teaching and learning.”

“Time passes very quickly when I am working with children. They have so much to share and learn. I feel like I am one of them as I watch them experiment and predict why things happen as they do. Every day is different and every child is unique.”
