Independence Post 21 scored two unearned runs in the top of the eighth inning to post a 10-8 extra-inning win over rival Hi Boy Drive In/Post 340 as the Memorial Day Invitational got under way Friday at Independence Athletic Complex.

Will Nesbit, who lead Post 21 with four hits – all singles – led off the top of the eighth with a single and Tyler Bodenstab followed with a walk. Ian Barker’s fly ball to right field was mishandled, allowing Nesbit and Bodenstab to score the go-ahead runs.
Barker had a single, double and three RBIs in the game.
“It’s always good to get a win,” Post 21 manager Tom Bush said. “First game out, we played fairly well. We feel fortunate to win.”
Josh Felz (1-0) pitched two innings for Post 21 to pick up the win and JoJo Taisi pitched a scoreless eighth to earn the save.
Devin Shores led Hi-Boy/Post 340 with a single, double and four RBIs. Shores pitched the eighth inning and suffered the loss.
BLUE SPRINGS POST 499/FIKE 4, OAK GROVE POST 379 3: Gehrig Hudson’s infield single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Stephen Montisano to give Fike the win in the Memorial Day Invitational.
“That’s a good way to start off the tournament,” Fike manager Jim Moran said. “We got a couple of key hits and that was good for us. We showed a lot of poise.”
Montisano had two hits on the evening – including a triple – and added two RBIs for Fike.
“Obviously he had a good game,” Moran said.
Sam Morman (1-0) allowed one earned run in two innings of work and was credited with the win.
James Newberry (0-1) gave up two runs in four innngs and suffered the loss for Oak Grove.
