If Gerald Johnson had come out for football several years ago, Van Horn might have won more than one game over the past two seasons. Johnson, who raced for two touchdowns on 20 and 83-yard jaunts in Van Horn’s 35-13 loss to Southeast, earned The Examiner’s “player of the week” award. Also in the running for the award were Kerry Compton and Jerry Stanley of Raytown, Karl Evans of William Chrisman, Bill Simmons, East, and Charles Buchanan of Blue Springs.
