Ralph Lee Smith, 93, of Independence, Mo., passed away Monday, July 23, 2012, at the VA Medical Center, Kansas City, Mo.

Ralph was born September 30, 1918, in Keytesville, Mo. He served his country honorably for 29 years in the U.S. Air Force, serving during World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sherman and Grace Smith; three sisters; and one brother.

Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Doreen; daughters, Janet Marsh and her husband, Kenneth, of Higginsville, Mo., and Mary Hinton and her husband, James, of Columbia, Mo.; sons, Edward Smith and his wife, Brenda, and Robert Smith and his wife, Fiona, both of Independence, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Leon Smith and his wife, Darlene, of Belmont, Texas.

Funeral services with military honors will be 3 p.m. Thursday, July 26, at Chapel of Memories Funeral Home, 30000 E. Valor Drive, Grain Valley, Mo. He will be laid to rest in Swan Lake Memorial Park, Grain Valley.
