Bank of America is closing its branch on 23rd Street, one of its five banks in Independence.

“It is closing in October,” company spokesperson Diane Wagner said Tuesday.

The company says no jobs will be lost. Employees at the branch will be transferred elsewhere.

The bank also will leave the two ATMs at the site for drive-thru customers.

“This is just part of our normal course of business, looking at where we have coverage,” Wagner said.

The bank gives customers a 90-day heads up when it closes a branch, and a note was sent out earlier this month directing customers to the Bank of America location on the Square.

The bank also has branches in Susquehanna, on Noland Road near Interstate 70 and in the Eastland shopping area. It has two branches on Missouri 7 in Blue Springs.
