The Knob Noster Relays quickly turned into the Riley Williams show.
Williams, a sophomore sprinter for Grain Valley, brought home four gold medals and helped the Eagles take first place in Tuesday’s meet by nearly 50 points.
Williams won the 100 meters (11.69 seconds), triple jump (41 feet) and was part of the champion 400 relay (45.20) and 800 relay (1:34.48) teams with Ryan Nace, Zach Hoover and Zach Lindsey.
“I was very impressed with Williams’ big night,” Eagles coach Marc Cleveland. “It’s probably most impressive because back in March he was my fourth fastest sprinter the relays. But with the injury to Austin Embrock, we tried to spread some more points in the sprints, and he has responded with several medals.”
Nace was second in both the 100 and 200, while Hoover was third in the 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.
Tyler Ishmael earned another first-place medal for the Eagles in the 3,200 (10:46.42).
Jon Mollet was second in both the discus (143 feet, 9.5 inches) and the shot put (44-1).
The Grain Valley girls team placed fifth on the strength of its sprinters.
Chelsey Rice was second in both the 100 (13.39) and the 200 (27.73). She also teamed with Madison Tucker, Miranda Coons and Lanae Wilke to place second in the 400 relay (53.23) and third in the 800 relay (1:54.77).
Alyssa Webb was second in the 3,200 (12:59.73) while Courtney Johnson, Kelly Gillotti, Sabra Warriner and Coons combined to place third in the 3,200 relay.
“We didn’t end up where we would have liked to at the end of the meet, but several girls improved their times, both individually and in relays,” Eagles coach Cris Byington said. “Overall, the girls were pretty pleased with their times, and improvement is a gradual, yet positive process.”
