Helen Pauline Atkins died April 23, 2009

Helen Pauline Atkins, 91, of Blue Springs, MO, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away on April 23, 2009, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Helen was born on November 23, 1917, in Owensville, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Atkins.

Helen lived her life in service to others. She was a beautiful combination of strength, humility and grace; a humble role model for living a Godly and worthy life to all those who loved her.

Helen was a faithful member of East Side Baptist Church. She was an avid KU basketball and Notre Dame football fan, and loved gardening and sewing.

She will be missed but lives on in her children: Stan Atkins of Raytown, Gerrie Gardner (Leonard) of Blue Springs, Jenny Cain (John) of Blue Springs, Jo Hastings (Buddy) of Blue Springs, and Jean Friskel Paetzold of Kansas City, step-son, Bill Atkins of Eustis, FL, and step-daughter, Anita Eulitt of Kansas City; eight grandchildren: Dan Schick (Leslie), Darrell Schick (Pam), Michelle Ridnour (Ryan), Jimmy Cain (Amy), Laura Legg (Kyle), John Friskel, Craig Hastings, and Molly Price (Kevin); and her youngest blessings, nine great-grandchildren: Brad, Kristy, Taylor, Abby, Carly, Cain, Hailee, Audrey and Addison. She is survived by her sister, Marie Upchurch of Henderson, KY. All will carry on her legacy of love.

She leaves behind the friendship and love of all those lucky enough to have known her. The smile on her face, the twinkle in her eye and the kindness of her soul allowed her to make true friends wherever she went.

May we all live out our lives remembering the gifts she gave us and remembering to pass those gifts along to others.

Visitation will be held Monday, April 27 from 6:00 to 8:00pm at East Side Baptist Church, 19901 E. 78 Highway, Independence, MO.
