The National Weather Service has extended the red flag warning through 7 p.m., saying there’s an extreme danger of wildfires.

The Weather Service posted a red flag warning shortly after 2 p.m. to the entire metro area. The warning area also includes western Missouri from Sedalia to Maryville and much of Kansas.

A red flag warning means it’s warm and dry with strong winds, so there’s the potential for what the Weather Service calls explosive growth in fires. Outdoor burning is not recommended.

There’s also a wind advisory through 7 p.m. for the metro area and beyond.
