Paul Robert Hanaway, 84, Independence, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2011.

Paul was born May 29, 1926, in Independence, Missouri, the son of John O. and Elsie E. (Colby) Hanaway. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII. Paul was employed with the Vendo Company until 1972, and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1993, as an electrical engineer at the bulk mail center. He enjoyed going to Silver Dollar City in Branson, camping, and attending the casinos. He especially loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Hanaway in 2003, and his parents.

Survivors include his children; David S. Hanaway and his wife, Sandy, of Odessa, Kim Gorby of Lexington, Mike C. Hanaway and his wife, Kelli, of Independence, and Rick B. Hanaway of Independence; ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two sisters; and four brothers.

A gathering of family and friends at Paul’s home will be from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 26, 2011, per Paul’s wishes. Cremation will be under the direction of Speaks Suburban Funeral Home.
