To the editor:

The Missouri House Budget Committee, in its ongoing extravaganza of fiscal responsibility, has made some deep cuts in health care. Unfortunately, some of the funds on its chopping block were meant to be used as Medicaid expenses for low-income parents and for the State Children’s Health Insurance program. Now this comes even after Gov. Jay Nixon’s appeal to the committee for using $14 million in the state general revenue funding, along with $91.7 million in federal funds to restore Medicaid expenses, and $22.7 million in state general revenue to draw down further $58.5 million in federal funds for children’s health insurance. In fact, if the originally recommended federal funds alone were to be invested, not only would the state have received millions of dollars in business activity and growth, but also several jobs would have been created.
