To the editor:
I am troubled by the administrative boondoggle taking place in the Independence School District in regard to veteran teacher Gene Hoppe.
This district lacks the courage to defend and retain a teacher of this caliber. It has shown this time and again since the Hinson regime began at the beginning of this decade. Once again, the district disregards teachable moments for its students. Administrators will not teach their students about personal responsibility. They will not teach their students how to respect professional educators. They will not teach their students that manipulating the system is an inappropriate means to winning.
This man has changed more lives and instilled a fire for learning in more students than these administrators could ever know. They should reinstate him immediately. And then Mr. Hoppe should find work in a place that will support him and value his skills.
