Jordan Hoffman will return to the Scripps National Spelling Bee for a third time.


The eighth grader at Pleasant Lea Middle School in Lee's Summit won the Jackson County Spelling Bee Saturday. Her winning word was "syllabus." Shaurir Ramanujan  , a student at Academy Montessori International, placed second.


Hoffman was the county champion in 2010 and 2011, but has not made it past the preliminary rounds in the national finals. This will be her third and final time to compete at the national competition, which is in May in Washington, D.C.
