South, after losing the season opener, rebounded for a 6-3 victory at Truman Wednesday.

“It was really thrilling to get the first victory of the season, especially over Truman,” South coach Sheri Rehmer said. “We lost to them last year.”

Chris Hammond, Matt Province, John Duffey and Jared Martin were South singles winners. Province and Alex Barber and Alex Martin and J. Martin prevailed in doubles.

Truman winners were Mason Short and Zach Felz in singles and the doubles team of Matt Perry and David Franklin.

LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH 7, GRAIN VALLEY 2: Singles victories by Robbie Sauer, Andrew Lam, Ryan Metzler, Nate Hendrickson and Anthony Innes lifted host Lee’s Summit North to the victory.

Lam and Hendrickson and Metzler and Innes claimed doubles wins.

Grain Valley’s Theo Nichols prevailed in No. 1 singles and teamed up with Lane Elliott for a victory in No. 1 doubles.

“I was pleased that we performed a little better in doubles than we have the past few days,” North coach Stu Reece said.

LIBERTY 5, LEE’S SUMMIT NORTH: Liberty prevailed in two doubles matches to edge the visiting Broncos in a Suburban Big Six match Tuesday.

“A great effort by the Broncos comes up short against Liberty,” North coach Stu Reece said. “Our guys really played some good tennis to put us in a position to win, but Liberty just played stronger than we did in doubles.”

North singles winners were Rob Durbin, Robbie Sauer and Andrew Lam. Sauer and Durbin combined for the only doubles decision.

Liberty posted a 6-3 junior varsity victory.
