Jackson County prosecutors will not file criminal charges in the shooting death of an Independence man in January.

Landis F. Adams, 41, was killed during an apparent domestic dispute Jan. 3 in a residence in the 600 block of South Crisp Avenue. A witness told police that Landis and another man were arguing before the shooting.

Police released few details on what led to the shooting. However, one man was taken into custody as a person of interest, but he was later released.

The suspect claimed self-defense and prosecutors said there was not enough evidence to prevail, Mike Mansur, spokesman for the prosecutor’s office, said Friday.
