Slade Morlang lived every day by the slogan “Winning at Everything We Do.”
That is how the Blue Springs School District community will remember the long-time presence at Blue Springs High School.
“Blue Springs High School has suffered a great loss,” said principal Dave Adams. “Slade Morlang was a former graduate, teacher, coach and administrator. He was a Wildcat in every sense of the term.”
Morlang, who has worked at Blue Springs High School since 1996, passed away suddenly at his home Saturday. Leslie Evans, public information director, said the exact cause of death is not known.
This was the second year that Morlang has served as associate principal. Before that, he was the assistant principal and served one year as the instructional interventionist. From 1996 to 2004, he was a science teacher and assistant coach for several sports including football, track and basketball.
Morlang was a 1986 graduate of Blue Springs High School.
“He believed and lived to make Blue Springs High School the very best place that it could be for the students and staff,” Adams said. “He was a tireless worker, with high energy and a positive outlook on life.”
Counselors will be on hand throughout the week for students and staff at the high school. Among Morlang’s accomplishments was being named the recipient of the 2007 Outstanding Service Award from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The award was given in recognition of his “exemplary service” to his school and for his contribution to the development of staff, directly impacting instruction and student performance.
“We will honor his memory by continuing to work to continue and build upon the strong traditions of being a Blue Springs Wildcat,” Adams said. “He worked each day to make our school better and was the ultimate role model for those of us who were fortunate enough to be touched by his presence.”
