Volleyball purists may have called it an upset, but don’t tell Lee’s Summit North head coach Rhea Moses that her Broncos were underdogs in its Class 4 District 14 championship game win over Lee’s Summit West on Wednesday at North.
Moses wanted no parts of the thought that the Broncos’ 25-23, 25-16 victory was a surprise.
“If you look at the seedings and the rankings, then sure it was an upset,” Moses said. “But, we were looking at it as we were equals. You have to win every game and you have to win every match. That’s what we did.
“The anticipation of the match really got the girls going. They were ready to go from 0-0.”
North’s victory sets up a sectional showdown Saturday with Blue Springs at Blue Springs South. The Broncos finished one game behind the Wildcats for first place in the Suburban Big Seven and split the season series with Blue Springs.
In fact, North stopped Blue Springs’ 48-match conference winning streak earlier this season.
