Wednesday was a night of fun for the Blue Springs South boys soccer team as it handed visiting St. Joseph Central a 4-0 loss on Senior Night.
Chance Reed, normally the starting goalie, scored the first goal and his backup, Jackson Hobbs, made two saves for the shutout as the Jaguars finished the regular season at 9-9-1, 5-7 in the Suburban Big Seven.
“All the seniors got to start and play a long time, and it was good to see Hobbs in goal and see Chance get a chance to score a goal,” coach Jon Grice said.
Trent Sutton, Darrin Kraft and Ty Thorp also scored goals and Micah Leech and Jaime Christenson each had two assists.
OAK GROVE 4, GRAIN VALLEY 1: Oak Grove scored early then broke open a close game against Missouri River Valley West conference rival Grain Valley with three second half-goals as the host Panthers ushered out seven seniors on Senior Night.
Leading 1-0 on a Aaron Stout goal in the fifth minute, the Panthers (12-10, 4-3 MRVC West) got a dose of adrenaline from Eric Barker in the 45th minute and Zach Leamon in the 47th minute. Pedro Ramirez had an assist and netted Oak Grove’s last goal in the 68th minute.
“It was a good way to send them out with a win,” Oak Grove coach Ben Thomason said. “Everyone contributed. It was an all-around team effort.”
Colin Chastain scored the lone goal for Grain Valley (5-15-1) only goal in the 49th minute.
“It was a good physical game,” Grain Valley head coach Bryan Davis said.
The junior varsity squads played to a 2-2 tie.
VAN HORN 6, HICKMAN MILLS 1: Carlos Borders scored a hat trick, Ricardo Sanchez had two goals and an assist and Kevin Alessio had a goal and two assists in a home rout for the Falcons (11-10).
“I was happy with the way we played; we passed well, Van Horn coach Chris Corrie said.
