Truman High School’s renovation of its new small gymnasium and band room is now complete

The details: In an effort to update and renovate some of the schools in the Independence School District, voters approved an $85 million bond issue in November 2009. Among those projects was the construction of a new band room and small gymnasium at Truman High School. Funding from the bond will also go to construct two new elementary schools in the district, one the east side and the second on the west.

The progress: Students and staff at Truman High School celebrated the completion of both the gymnasium and band room Tuesday during a ribbon cutting ceremony. Prior to the newly expanded band space, members of the school’s music program often rehearsed in cramped spaces. The new room offers additional practice and storage space. Members of the Truman High School pep band performed and speakers included current students and Superintendent Jim Hinson.
