Jordan Hoffman will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee for a third time.

Jordan Hoffman will return to the Scripps National Spelling Bee.

The eighth grader at Pleasant Lea Middle School in Lee's Summit won the Jackson County Spelling Bee Saturday. Her winning word was "syllabus." Shaurir Ramanujan , a student at Academy Montessori International placed second.

Jordan placed first at the county level in both 2010 and 2011, but has never progressed further than the preliminary rounds at the national spelling bee. The competition begins in late May in Washington, D.C.
