A Knob Noster resident has been charged with reckless driving and driving without insurance after police said he lost control of his car early Thursday morning and struck several other cars on Interstate 70.

Sgt. David Ison, spokesperson for the Independence Police Department, said the 32-year-old man was westbound on I-70 at about 6:45 a.m. when he came up on congested traffic.

Ison said the driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when he came upon the vehicles, just west of the Missouri 291/470 exit. Ison said the driver slammed on his brakes, struck a guard rail and then four other cars.

A total of eight cars were involved in the accident. One person was taken to a hospital with minor injuries and released, Ison said.

The driver’s name was unavailable Thursday afternoon.
