Two of the biggest names in today’s popular music will perform at the Independence Events Center this fall.

Grammy Award-winning Kelly Clarkson, best known for winning the first season of “American Idol,” and Grammy-nominated alternative rock band The Fray will perform at 7 p.m. Sept. 5. Tickets go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. Friday.

Sarah Miskew, the Events Center’s director of marketing, on Monday called the upcoming concert “the Events Center’s biggest show to date.” It will take place 10 years to the month of Clarkson’s win as an American Idol at age 20.

Both acts are touring in support of their most recent albums – for Clarkson, it’s “Stronger”; The Fray released “Scars & Stories” in February.

Clarkson is the winner of numerous music industry awards and has released five studio albums, has sold more than 20 million albums worldwide, and has had 10 singles in the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles Chart.

The piano rock-infused, Denver-based The Fray also is marking its 10th year as a band this year. Both new albums by Clarkson and The Fray debuted in the top 10 of the Billboard Top 200.

Clarkson’s and The Fray’s co-headlining tour will feature American alternative rock band Carolina Liar as the opening act.

Tickets will range from $39.50 to $79.50, not including additional fees. They may be purchased at the Events Center’s box office, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday; all Ticketmaster locations; online at Ticketmaster.com; or by calling 800-745-3000.
