As part of a statewide effort, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office will aggressively enforce seat belt violations through June 2.

It's part of the “Click It or Ticket” mobilization.

Information from the Sheriff's Office says that seven out of 10 people killed in Missouri traffic crashes are unbuckled.

Seat belt use in Missouri has remained relatively unchanged in the last six years. The state has 79 percent seat belt use, while the national average is 85 percent. Teens and pickup truck drivers are among those least likely to buckle up at 66 and 63 percent.

“Every day someone dies in a crash in Missouri because they weren’t buckled up,” Sheriff Mike Sharp said in a news release. “We will be pulling out all the stops to ensure motorists are buckling up.”
