Althea Ann (Marshall) Martin died May 27, 2013, after battling A.L.S.

Althea was born September 22, 1933, in Davis City, Iowa, to Israel A. Marshall and Susie Blenadine (Keashlear) Marshall. Althea served for 5 years in the U.S. Air Force. Two years were served in Puerto Rico as a Dental Technician. She also graduated from the Independence Sanitarium School of Nursing in 1963, and worked there until she moved to the Medical Center of Independence and retired in 1995. She was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore Martin Jr. on November 29, 2006.

She is survived by two brothers, James Marshall of DesMoines, Iowa, and Max Marshall of Ankeny, Iowa. She is also survived by five children, Michael D. Martin of Independence, Mo., June A. (Martin) Sommerla of Leavenworth, Kan., Theodore J. Martin of Independence, Joyce M. (Martin) Murdock of Independence, and Lance A. Martin of Crystal Lake, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 31, at New Salem Funeral Home, Independence, 816-796-8600. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 1, in Mound Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in her honor  to The  A.L.S. Association.
