The Independence Community Development Director has resigned to take a new position out of state.

Jennifer Clark, who has been with the city for five years, has accepted a position as director of the Development and Resource Management Department for the city of Fresno, Calif. She will begin her new responsibilities July 1.

“Independence is a remarkable community with a strong sense of history and civic pride,” she said about her time in Independence. “I have been privileged to have the opportunity to work in such a well-known city and with so many dedicated individuals.”

Clark came to Independence in April 2008 after previously working with the city of Albany, Ga. Among her major projects in Georgia were creating a pilot program for removing neighborhood blight. In Independence, she has been in charge of overseeing the city’s comprehensive and current planning, historic preservation and housing and community services as well as building inspections.

Tom Scannell, the assistant community development department director, will serve as acting director until the position is filled.
