Independence police arrested a bank robbery suspect Friday afternoon following a chase.

Police were called to a bank robbery about 12:40 p.m. at the US Bank at 3640 S. Noland Road. An officer en route to the call saw a car that matched the description of the vehicle involved in the bank robbery and attempted to stop it.

The male driver of the vehicle took off at high speeds and police gave chase eastbound on Truman Road. Police spokesperson Tom Gentry said the vehicle crashed into a ditch near the intersection of Truman Road and North Kiger Road, where police took the man into custody.

Gentry said police believe the driver of the vehicle in the chase is a suspect in the bank robbery.

Gentry and FBI spokeperson Bridgett Patton did not yet know any other details of the robbery, how much money the robber took or the age or description of the man arrested.
