Mr. Althaus:

I write this letter to you ... to the Maverick ownership, team, fans and to the city of Independence, on allowing CHL hockey to transform and allow this awesome game of hockey to be a part of your community.

... Knowing your internal ownership group as I do, as well as some of the staff and players, I believe its hats off to your ownership group and to the Maverick warriors and staff for rocking these first two seasons like you have.

I had the joy to play for the Lubbock Cotton Kings of the CHL for almost six seasons and had the opportunity to see so many amazing things happen both on and off the the ice here. The Lubbock Cotton Kings transformed the unique environment of West Texas by bringing them a game they had never had. By bringing them a passion I truly believe many longed for and wanted. For many seasons we excelled in every department necessary to bring our team to the pinnacle of what we believed in. In that, bringing the game of hockey to those who wanted it or had never experienced it. For our then ownership group and your current one, I am so grateful to them for that because I now know and see the love and energy that your community has welcomed with open arms as ours did.

Being a current resident of Lubbock, Texas, now and not too long ago having to watch my old team leave, I must admit I am so happy that your community was able to take it in and make us very proud here. When you think about it, the men who started our dream here in Lubbock ... and now yours there ... they had a very good eye for good men to carry on their vision, not only in Lubbock, but now in Oklahoma, Ohio and Independence.

In the last nine seasons in the CHL, this ownership group has allowed five of the last nine recipients to become Man of the Year. Through God’s will and dedication these players were given every opportunity to give themselves fully to their community and team, and I truly think this speaks volumes of what these gentlemen have been able to create and accomplish.

Thank you Men of the Year, I think I can speak on behalf of all of us as alumni from you; thank you for letting us follow our passion in so many ways. God Bless and good luck to you Mavericks next season.
