The team went 6-0 to capture last weekend’s Blue Springs South Volleyball Tournament, upending St. Teresa’s in the finals.

Blue Springs South went 4-2, Blue Springs finished 2-2 and Lee’s Summit North went 2-3.

South defeated O’Hara (25-20, 25-15), Nerinx Hall (25-20, 25-14) and Lee’s Summit West (25-19, 25-19) in pool play.

The Jaguars (14-4) stopped Springfield Glendale 25-29, 22-25, 25-18 in the quarterfinals and then fell to St. James 25-19, 25-18 in the semifinals and Aquinas 25-21, 25-18 in the third-place match.

“We did really well,” South coach Dave MacLean said. “We ran out of steam. We threw everything we had against St. James.”

Blue Springs (9-7) bested Aquinas 25-29, 22-15, 25-23 and Fulton 25-12, 25-11 and fell to NIxa 25-22 and 25-22 in pool play and then fell to St. James 25-20, 12-25, 13-25 in the quarterfinals.

“Our defense was phenomenal most of the time,” said Blue Springs coach Katie Grusing. “That’s what has to happen for us to stay in matches.”

Lee’s Summit North (12-6) lost to Glendale 25-23, 18-25, 13-25 and St. Teresa’s 25-12, 25-22 and stopped Incarnate Word 25-22, 25-23 in pool play.

The Broncos followed with a 21-25, 25-20, 25-13 victory over O’Hara in the first round of consolation play and then bowed to Nixa 25-17, 25-23.

SEDALIA SMITH-COTTON TOURNAMENT: Grain Valley went 5-0 to capture the Smith-Cotton Tournament title Saturday.

The Eagles upended the host team 25-13, 25-17, Versailles 25-20, 25-15 and Marshall 25-14, 25-21 in pool play and followed with a 25-10, 25-8 victory over Higginsville in the semifinals. In the finals, the Eagles (14-2-1) defeated the host team again 25-19, 25-23.

“We started hitting the ball a lot better as a team with 102 kills,” Grain Valley coach Keri Peterson said.

ODESSA 25-25, OAK GROVE 11-10: Visiting Odessa posted an easy Missouri River Valley Conference West victory over Oak Grove.

PLEASANT HILL 25-26, GRAIN VALLEY 20-26: Pleasant Hill remained undefeated with the home Missouri River Valley Conference West victory.
